Six bands, 10.5 miles walked, so much sunscreen and Grand Old Day starts off St Paul Summer

St Paul says hello to summer in style with Grand Old Day, the first Sunday in June. It’s been on hiatus for the last few years but, this year back in full glory. I started my day on Snelling and Grand(nearly Macalester College) and headed East to Dale.

There were six stages with music. And a few miles shops, restaurants, booths and so many people. Lots of people drinking despite the 90 degree temperatures. Tougher than I am for sure. But we saw some awesome music. In order of appearance…

Langers Ball – great Irish music and ran into friends from the Dubliner. They had a good crowd but everyone was in the shade at the sides of the stage.

Tim Siegler with rock music. Looks like Red Rabbit only had two bands play – so cheers to the bands that played for a long time on a very hot day!

Sophia Eris … who I remember from back in the days of the Chalice and more. She was getting the crowd going. Clearly lots of folks who knew her and a few who do now.

Bad Bad Hats who I just was two days ago but always awesome. They have such a great understated way with the crowd and fantastic music to follow.

Porky’s Groove Machine, always good for a dance, played the family stage. So their usual costumes were doubly welcome.

Lots of folks showed up for the Jayhawks. They sounded fantastic and always fun to get to see them, especially outdoors. Their great at Lake Harriet but even better to see them in my own backyard.
