Mae Simpson’s lyric video for Cap Guns is nostalgic and charming – just like the song. And if you’re up for a drive or happen to live near Hutchinson, you can see Mae sing it live tonight (July 14) at the Riversong Music Festival.
I’ve seen Mae perform Cap Guns live, and especially performed at a summer outdoor festival, you can see the smiles on the faces as people tap into the memories that Mae conjures. It’s a gentle song, like a sway. In the video, the music plays as childhood scenes unfold in a drawing style that reminds me of Winnie the Pooh. The music brings you back to the day as quickly as the lyrics do. Added bonus, this is the first single from her upcoming full length album, Chandelier & Bloom, out September 1, 2023!
We had the pleasure of interviewing Mae in 2020 and learned about her roots in hip hop and art of spinning her story in song into everyone’s story. That’s certainly the case with Cap Guns – even for those of us who weren’t allowed cap guns as kids.
