Notes from Aug 6 show from Heather Baker
A Sunken Ship Irony sounds to me like Conor Orberst blended perfectly with the soundtrack of Juno. A little Lofi with dark, witty lyrics. It has playful instrumentation paired with deep lyrics laced with humor and fear tied neatly together with the feeling of belonging. Some have also called it punk folk. Josh has this head of full cool long black hair; it seems as if it could be a shield or protective layer covering his face. He has gone through some significant events in the last few years, which he has shared in his songwriting. As if he is giving us a front seat into his life. It’s beautiful and at times heavy making you feel a connective layer in the music. The band gives you a whole experience at their shows.. The stage becomes a haunted forest, the band is dressed in theme, with interactive props for the crowd. Sounds a bit Tim Burton-ish to me. Amazing!! Josh seems to be an out of the box thinker, which is evident in the details of the live shows. His offers a simplistic touch that delivers a powerful effect. Some upcoming shows Common Roots Festival on 8/19 & At the Green Room on 10/26 for the return of the Haunted Forest. Look out for new music too two albums soon to be released Chomp & Flower Crown
