REVIEW: A Revolutionary Rock Opus PROTEST

A Revolutionary Rock Opus PROTEST is powerful, energizing and informative! It’s the kind of show you want to see with your community – be that your sisters, daughters, mom, friends or book club. It’s the kind of show where you should bring your coworkers, cousins or neighbors who don’t quite get what folks are so upset about these days. The music will win them over enough to listen to the stories and the power is in the stories.

I had the opportunity to ask Perrin Post, founder of Buffalo Gal Productions, about the show a month ago. So, I knew the backstory but hard to be prepared for how the show can hit you. It is a medley of songs, both original and covers, that tell the story of protests in America in the last century, starting with the vibe of the 1960s and leading up to the present.

The murder of Geroge Floyd was an impetus to start the project and the pause of the pandemic helped make it possible. Also, the project gave employment to the artists during a time when, especially touring artists, were left wanting. They pay homage to such heroes had Marsha P. Johnson, Greta Thunberg and Stacy Abrams, to name just a few.

My only complaint – no room to dance. The songs made me want to move. They made me want to dance but also renew my investment in projects such as ERA Minnesota and the Women’s March MN. And after the last brutal legislative session, I needed the shot of enthusiasm! It would be great to see the show pop up a few more place to get folks excited for the election this fall. (Maybe we can all start humming, Vote, one of my favorite songs from the show.)
