5 Questions with Palomino Brothers Band

Palomino Brothers Band, based just an hour out of Minneapolis, plays a mix of original, covers and interpreted songs – usually with a country Americana sound.

Please tell us about the Palomino Brothers band.
The Palomino Band is; Reid, bass, Scott, mando, guitar, singer/songwriter, Dave, guitar, singer/songwriter

How did you start playing music together?
We started playing together a couple of years ago. Reid, put our band together.  He wanted to be in a band that wrote their own music so, he called Scott first, then called me, because he knew we both had written some original music.

You have hundreds of original songs. Do you write those collectively or does one person take the lead each song? What’s the process?
Scotts written music for over 40 years but, never had the opportunity to sing it, share it with others.  I’ve written some music over the years and especially, since the band has gotten together, I’ve written about 20 songs and Scott has written another 20-30 songs over these 2 years together, plus the roughly 40 songs he had written over many years.  We write our own music and the songs come to me and Scott, sometimes in the middle of the night, a melody or a phrase and, each of us, in our own homes, gets up and records whatever we have so, we don’t forget it and build the songs from there.  So, most of my songs start out as ‘babies’ and mature through ‘childhood’, ‘teenagers’, etc, until fully mature, song done, in 2-4 weeks.

Where are some hot spots to see live music in your area, around Dassel and Cokato?
Dassel and Cokato are small towns, an hour west of Minneapolis.  Playing at Wineries has been a good fit for us, so far, Crow River Winery. Just outside Hutchinson, Jomas Hill Winery, near Darwin, MN and Millner Heritage Winery, near Kimball, MN are a few of the places we’ve been playing at.   We are getting some traction now and looking to play some gigs in the Twin Cities.

Where can people see you play? Any gigs closer to the Twin Cities coming up?
Scott and I have been doing the MN Songwriters Showcase at the Plum Cafe’ in St. Paul and the Aster Cafe’ in Minneapolis.  Put on by Nick Hensley, for 24 years now, it gives songwriters a stage where they can share/showcase their original music with other artists and audiences.  We have a facebook page, Palomino Brother and youtube; Palomino Brothers and getting some of our music on Spotify but, definitely a work in progress, figuring all of that out.
