Happy Art in Bloom to those who celebrate – and if you don’t, you should! Art in Bloom happens in spring when the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (Mia) partners artists and florists with works of art from their permanent collection to create arrangements to suit the works. There are 100 flower masters involved. When they sign up, they can choose their top 20 choices for artworks and the planner will try to find a match; or the artist can choose their next 20 favorites.
The show opens officially tomorrow. It includes some fancy ticketed events but also, it’s open regular hours and free (as always) to attend. It’s going to be packed and parking will be terrible but it’s worth it. I got a sneaky peek of the exhibit today because I know that the florists need to finish their works that day before opening, and that the gallery is open until 5pm.
It’s so much fun to see what folks do with the opportunity. I can group most of them into the categories below:
Some focus on the color combinations.
Some mimic, mirror or build on the composition.
Some capture the vibe.
And some extend the view.
