I was running ragged planning for the No Kings Twin Cities rally happening at 1pm on October 18 at The Commons in downtown Minneapolis when I heard No KINGS No CROWN by two formidable Minnesota musicians Paul Metsa and Alan Sparhawk. It was a moment of Zen when I most needed it. The song tells the stories of horror we are seeing and experiencing daily. The music is soothing in a sad way but in a way that takes away the anger of the moment and somehow makes it more real. It lifted up the work that we are doing in the Hands Off Coalition (including Indivisible Twin Cities, MN50501, Women’s March Minnesota and Minnesota AFL-CIO) and I hope it will lift others up to continue or start getting involved in speaking out against injustice and/or doing work to support our neighbors most in need.
Not only is it a video premiere, the new single on Bandcamp is releasing today – just in time to get us amped for the march. It is also available for free on Paul Metsa’s website and will also be available on his new collection of protest songs called Songs of Resistance & Resolve 1984-2025. Paul will be celebrating his new album at his 70th birthday show at Minneapolis’ Aster House on Sunday, November 2. The concert is a benefit for AM950, home to Paul’s long-running Wall of Power Radio Hour show that has featured conversations with artists and activists from MN and around the world.
