New sights, new sounds is what we need in the Twin Cities right now. It’s not a good time to leave but it’s a great time to look around to the parts of the community that are new to you. So I’m pleased to share a modern, Ethiopian jazz group band that’s new to me – Ahndenet. Their name means unity in the Amharic language. The music is joyful and their new song (and video!) Yinegera (Let It Be Heard) was just what the doctor ordered for me to start this crisp (-3), sunny day with a renewed appreciation for the richness of our community!
The band is headed up by acclaimed jazz drummer and composer Abinnet Berhanu and features noted vocalist Genet Abate and the Twin Cities’ finest jazz players (Pete Whitman, Jeff Bailey, Bryan Murray, Joe Strachan).
