Moyana Olivia (Olivia Pierce) just released X-Ray, an original song and video. She wrote the song in 2017, after Philando Castile was killed by a police officer in St Anthony, Minnesota. The video highlights the recent civil unrest surrounding the death of George Floyd and encourages viewers to vote. She wrote it. She sings it. It features Mac Turner. She inspires.
Her voice is soothing and imploring. Juxtaposed with the antiseptic news reports and slightly more seasoned voice of Mac Turner. The message is simple and straightforward – can’t we all just get along.
Talking to her gives me hope. She’s self-possessed and focused on goals that include getting people to vote. When asked what was her plan for the future, she jumped right into tracking the number of people who registered to vote after seeing the video There’s a woman who gets stuff done; a woman with measurable goals. And a woman after my own heart – voting is the easiest and most important thing we can do to effect change this year.
She has plans for her future too. She graduated from Edina High School last summer. She’s a freshman at Northwestern University; it’s only two weeks into online classes but she plans to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. She hopes to find time to produce an EP. And she’s open to collaboration.
Love watching your journey growing from such a sweet girl into such a powerful and strong woman.
