Amanda B. Perry is about to release her debut album, By Special Request, with a livestream show on Facebook on November 20 at 8pm. We talked about that and more and (spoiler alert!) got a special preview live song at the end of the interview!
Amanda has the voice of a diva and personality of the girl you wanted to sit by in high school. So infectious and with the latest (ok maybe not latest) gossip from All My Children! She was a delight.
Her confidence is impressive and well earned. She started playing music a number of years ago, was quick to find a piano at the party to start a singalong, moved to singing at weddings and other events and was just getting her feet wet with more gigs when COVID hit. She continued doing online shows and decided to move forward with her debut album – a highly passionate collection of 11 love songs. Songs of old love becoming new, songs of loss, songs to touch the listener’s experience, songs inspired by a picture of Chernobyl. (You’ll have to listen to the interview for more info on that one!)
The songs are engaging and meaningful; they feel very personal. I wasn’t sure how intense she was going to be – but it turns out talking to her feels very friendly. She’s a woman who shows up in a ballgown and a martini and immediately shares that she may be ballgown from the waist up but could be leopard pajama bottoms under the keyboard! Her show promises to feel like a night out. I might have to at least get a martini glass for it – even if I’m only drinking beer from it.
