Ledfoot Larry talks about neotraditional country music and Tequila Mockingbird

Lorenzo “Ledfoot Larry” Michelutti has a new album coming out July 30. It’s called Tequila Mockingbird and if you love old country, you’re going to love it!

This is the sophomore album for Ledfoot Larry; this latest is decidedly more country, or as he says, neotraditional country than the earlier album. It’s harkens back to Dwight Yoakam, maybe even a little Elvis. There are some amazing dance songs (such as accordion-forward Dance, Dance, Dance), some songs that show great humor (My Baby Hates Country), some sad songs (saddest guitar I’ve ever heard is on In a World Without You) and a sweet song written for Lorenzo’s son (Fireflies).

It was fun to get to talk to Lorenzo, to hear about the theory that goes into his set list and even set timing. There’s a real appreciation for what the audience wants. And fun to hear about a band that has 40 shows on the books for 2021. They are playing all around Minnesota and Wisconsin if you want to check them out. It gives us a flavor of inspiration for Silver Spurs, another song on the album!
