Muskellunge and Charlie Parr on playing with portal iii and Benevolents at the Hook and Ladder March 11

What a rare treat to have Reba Fritz and John Crozier from Muskellunge and Charlie Parr play new duets on a Friday afternoon to whet our appetite for seeing them play with portal iii and Benevolents at the Hook and Ladder March 11.

Some of the added atmosphere in the recording was brought to us by shaky broadband and it just makes me more excited to see them play together live at the Hook. The three bands will play separate sets. Also we’ll hear some interesting pairings. Muskellunge has adapted one of Charlie’s songs – with Charlie and Charlie has adapted a Muskellunge song with them. The music is soothing and a fine blend of ambient and rock and so interesting.

The music is only a segment of what’s happening at the show on Friday March 11, which is billed as an InventionSession. There will be art with Live Visual Art Shows from the True Hallucinations and short videos from Chris Mars.

Talking with the trio we learned about the strong theme of invention and re-invention behind the show. It’s exciting to see well established musicians delve into new genres and new collaborations.

As another dimension of community, the event is an opportunity to support Socks for the Shelterless and Mutt Mutt Engine Dog Rescue.

  • Socks for the Shelterless donors of (newly purchased) socks will be rewarded with raffle tickets for exciting prizes.
  • Mutt Mutt Engine Dog Rescue, founded by Sally and Chris Mars, works to identify dogs in need and the people who need help helping them. *Donors will be rewarded with raffle tickets for exciting prizes.
