Mostly MN Music with Desdamona getting ready for the reproductive rights rally July 17!

Such a delight to be back in the studio with two microphones and a guest who shares our passion for lifting up women (and nonbinary, trans and gender fluid) artists – Desdamona. With projects like B Girl Be, the all-female Hip Hop fest, she really has put women on Hip Hop scene in Minnesota and therefore put Minnesota on the Hip Hop map!

Desdamona has been awarded several Minnesota Music Awards; her spoken word, MC and singing are inspiring. We talked about her album No Man’s Land. It came out in 2016, she started working on it in 2009 and the themes feel even more relevant today. It Don’t Stop shines a light on the women and others who work hard without recognition. It starts with a clip from You Don’t Own me by Lesley Gore. The whole album uses female voices from the past to help lift people today. It’s an album that demonstrated how to lift a voice and calls people to listen. It was a perfect message for our theme for the day – rallying for the rally tomorrow –Our Future: The March for Reproductive Rights in St Paul from 11am to 3pm. (Hope to see you there!)
