Davina and the Vagabonds on the upcoming New Year’s Eve stream from the Dakota

Davina (Lozier) and the Vagabonds will be celebrating New Year’s Eve at the Dakota for the 11th year in a row and we are invited to join online. (Tickets available now for show AND option for a fancy take away meal!)

Davina is a delight. She is ready and raring for the show at the end of the week and I can’t think of a better send off to 2020 and start to 2021. As Davina pointed out this is an opportunity for her fans around the world to see her famous New Year’s Eve show. I like the idea of getting a meal too. It would be a perfect New Year’s Eve date – live music, great food, opportunity to get dressed up (or not) without braving the freezing cold of Minnesota.

She is working on her set list. It sounds like it will be a mix of crowd pleasing jazzy favorites, some introspective personal numbers and a few new songs. I’m really looking forward or the new songs to hear the impact of 2020 on her music. While Davina seems to be taking things in stride, the pandemic has cast a shadow on 2020 for all of us. Her normally hectic travel schedule has come to a halt and she lives just a few blocks from the Minneapolis Third Precinct. Her pandemic started off with a self-quarantine when she came home from her in March, which had come a little too close to COVID hotspots, and now she’s eager to not put herself and her band in a similar position.

We had a great conversation on how we are keeping sane these days. How Davina overcomes mishaps on stage – even on the Monterey Jazz Festival stage. And why she decided to do a holiday album this year. (An album that sold out in pre-sales as a matter of fact!) And tricks and nods we are going to keep an eye out for during her show on Dec 31!
